The 2022 vintage was focused on resilience and adaptability in the vineyards as one of the more unique vintages in recent memory. With mild December rain, the growing season commenced on the warmer side, leading to an early budbreak. Progressing into late spring and early summer, the vines showed strong shoot growth and a return to average crop yields. With ideal weather in August, comprised of warm days and cool nights, the first pick of Sauvignon Blanc took place on our Mt. Veeder Estate on August 17th. Semillon and Sauvignon Gris followed over the next two weeks, finishing up just before the beginning of September.
The 2022 Crossroads Sauvignon Blanc sparkles with a silvery pale-yellow color. Youthful and daring aromas jump out of the glass with notes of fresh lemongrass, sweet lemon rind, and white flower blossoms. Lively grapefruit pith and a light celery root fragrance round out the bouquet, adding to the intrigue of this wine. The palate is all about pure pleasure. Lusciously sweet limes, freshly picked peaches, and a clean mineral tone enliven the palate. But, it’s the bright and energetic acidity integrated with the round, fleshy green apple and sweet cantaloupe throughout the midpalate which truly brings this wine together. The delightful levity and crispness of this Sauvignon Blanc makes me want to travel to the Italian coast and eat freshly caught seafood and indulge in decadent homemade pasta until another bite is not possible!
