Sauvignon Blanc

$50.00 ea.

The 2021 vintage was a gift from Mother Nature. The year commenced with little rain, leading to an early budbreak with the second year of drought conditions in Napa Valley. Mild spring temperatures allowed for an easy renewal to the growing season with temperatures rising in the summer months, accelerating the start of the harvest. The Sauvignon Blanc harvest on our Mt. Veeder Estate began quite early, starting on August 17th, rounding out the harvest of white wine varietals with the Semillon and Sauvignon Gris after only 13 days. Smaller canopies and berries meant smaller yields, resulting in concentrated grapes with tremendous flavor encapsulating the beauty of the vintage. While a small production size was dictated by the rhythms of the growing season, the quality level of the 2021 vintage is exceptional.

Winemaker Notes

The 2021 Crossroads Sauvignon Blanc sparkles in bright, pale-yellow precision. Youthful and lively, the white flowers, green pear, and light toasty notes continue to evolve in the glass as it opens. The beauty of creating this wine is finding the balance in the aromatics and seeing it translate to the palate, beginning with freshly picked lime and lemongrass, opening to a broad midpalate of crisp peach and juicy pineapple. The acidity is striking and precise, softening into a grapefruit pith-like texture with pops of salinity continuing through. Helping with the finessed, round finish is the use of both neutral oak and concrete over 8 months, making this wine unique, and more importantly interesting, to those lucky enough to find a bottle. Best enjoyed along the coast with a plate full of oysters and a beautiful northern California sunset.
