Malbec

$75.00

The 2021 vintage was a gift from Mother Nature. The year commenced with little rain, leading to an early budbreak with the second year of drought conditions in Napa Valley. Mild spring temperatures allowed for an easy renewal to the growing season with temperatures rising in the summer months, accelerating the start of picking. With the Oakville Estate harvest starting on August 27th, our Malbec was expertly picked on September 3rd to preserve freshness and co-fermented with a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon. A small yielding vintage revealed wines of great concentration and flavor, and most importantly, allowed for a small amount of the Malbec to be bottled on its own for the very first time.

Winemaker Notes

The 2021 Crossroads Malbec showcases a varietal from Oakville that is usually a contributing participant to the blends from our Estate, rather than the headliner. The 2021 vintage was ideal for demonstrating what Malbec has to offer. This wine presents inviting aromas of sweet blueberries and fresh black cherries, accompanied by delicate hints of vanilla baking spices. The subtle floral notes of purple flowers intermingled with intriguing undertones of anise and earth, add depth to the bouquet. On the palate, it delights with flavors of macerated fresh fruits, with ruby red plum taking center stage, bringing a luscious sweetness and a slightly tart pop as the wine progresses across the tongue. The addition of fresh herbs, such as sage and thyme, provide a striking balance to the generous fruit profile, adding to the complexity of the palate. Through the midpalate to the finish, lively tannins add structure and poise to the overall tasting experience with a sweet cocoa finish. This combination of flavors and textures create a harmonious and satisfying wine journey. One of our earliest released red wines, it is meant to be playful and energetic, and can even be enjoyed slightly chilled with a perfectly paired picnic of charcuterie and cheeses on a fall day.
