The 2017 vintage was one for the record books – a vintage in which we are fortunate to have a beautiful wine that reflects the courage of Napa Valley. Characterized primarily by its weather, it was a vintage that kept us on our toes from start to finish. With a vintage that started off with rain, hail, and heat, we were happy to see minimal impact in the vineyard from these weather events and were pleased to begin harvest on September 3rd. With warm weather in September, we saw a slowdown in sugar accumulation, but continued to pick based on taste rather than the numbers. This allowed us to wrap up our last pick on October 4th, a couple days before the fires began.

The second release of this wine, the 2017 Crossroads Cabernet Sauvignon from Rudd Oakville Estate is driven by ripe black and red fruits, and a dense tannin profile. Aromatically decadent with red currants, violets, and black licorice, this vintage continues to show off what a great vineyard site can bring in a trying vintage. For a youthful Cabernet Sauvignon, the structured tannin profile is well integrated and balanced by the purity of the brambleberry and plum on the palate. The wine’s intensity and strength grow as the wine develops in the glass, always bringing the taster back to the red, rocky soil where the vines grow. Crossroads Cabernet Sauvignon is intended to be appreciated upon release, but will continue to impress over the next few years.
